Market Life

I find markets endlessly fascinating and a great canvas for black and white documentary photography.

A market is the heartbeat of most communities, providing the essentials of daily life and invariably filled with great characters and moments.

Wherever my travels take me, I am inevitably drawn to the local markets to record the environment, the market traders and customers. The energy, sights, sounds and smells and the human interaction embody the character of a city and it’s residents.

Below is a selection of black and white documentary photographs taken in a variety of markets including; Borough Market in London, Old Truman Brewery in London’s Brick Lane, Mercato Central in Florence, Mercado de Triana in Seville, Central Markets in Riga, Mercato di Rialto in Venice, Mercato di Capo and Mercato del Ballero in Palermo, Sicily, Ostermalms Saluhall in Stockholm and La Pescheria in Catania, Sicily.
